Wrexham's Phil Parkinson Demands Reaction Ahead of Middlesbrough Clash

3 November 2026

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has led his team to three promotions, but now he's looking for a response after a frustrating loss to Sheffield United. Following a lackluster 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane, Parkinson acknowledged that his players needed some candid conversations to address their performance. The team is eager to bounce back with two important home games coming up against Middlesbrough and Wolves before the international break. "I think there's a good level of honesty in the room," Parkinson remarked. "We've shown glimpses of quality, but it was essential for us to analyze the whole game together." He continued, "Accountability is key, and we needed to reflect on what we did right and where we fell short. There were some important points discussed, but we also had to keep things private to foster a sense of honesty among the group." Now, the challenge is to turn that honesty into action. Parkinson feels that their recent training sessions have been fruitful and knows the significance of this week for the team as they gear up for back-to-back home matches. Wrexham struggled to create chances in their last outing, managing just one shot on target, a weak header from Sam Smith that arrived too late in the game. As they sit 18th in the Championship standings, the Red Dragons face league leaders Middlesbrough next, looking to end a run of away defeats. "We know we're not where we want to be, but we must dig deep," Parkinson said. "The performances need to reflect the team's capabilities over time. For some reason, we weren't at our best in the first half against Sheffield." However, he remained optimistic, pointing out that there have been numerous matches this season where they've performed well. The focus now is on understanding why they fell short and regaining their form. Wrexham's last home match saw them dominate Preston North End with a 4-1 victory, yet they have yet to achieve consecutive wins at home this season. "The atmosphere at the Racecourse is vital for us," Parkinson stated, urging fans to rally behind the team against Middlesbrough. "We may be a bit short-staffed, but we've shown resilience many times before, and that's what we need to harness now." He concluded, "We must fight hard while also being tactical in our approach. I want to see that spark, intensity, and effort in our play going forward."
