Pulisic and Balogun Make USMNT Comeback for Nations League Clash
4 November 2026
Mauricio Pochettino has unveiled his 26-man squad for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League quarter-finals, where the United States will take on Haiti. Among the notable inclusions are Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Folarin Balogun, marking a return to the national team scene for these key players.
This two-legged showdown against Haiti represents the first competitive outing for the US since their disappointing exit from the World Cup at the hands of Belgium in the Round of 16. With a solid squad and good form, Pochettino’s men are favored to clinch the title, especially as they face a Haiti team hosting the first leg in Miami on November 14 due to safety concerns in Port-au-Prince. The return match is set for November 17 in Cincinnati.
In goal, Pochettino’s choices come as no surprise. Matt Freese, Diego Kochen, and Brian Schwake have all made their mark, with Schwake being widely regarded as one of the top keepers in Major League Soccer. However, the US is still searching for a definitive number one, leaving the door open for competition, especially with Matt Turner, who has been in impressive form, missing from this roster.
The defensive lineup showcases a blend of seasoned players and newcomers. Reed Baker-Whiting, who is eyeing his US debut, has impressed as a left back for Nashville SC, while Bryan Reynolds returns to the fold after a stint with Stade Rennais. Notably, Sergiño Dest has been repositioned back into defense after spending time on the wing in previous matches.
Alongside them, George Campbell and Neil Pierre will look to build on their previous performances, while Chris Richards and Auston Trusty are expected to form the backbone of the defense this cycle.
In midfield, the US boasts a wealth of talent. Santiago Castañeda joins the mix, having quickly adjusted to life in the Bundesliga with SC Paderborn. He'll provide a solid alternative to Tyler Adams, who continues to lead as national team captain. Sebastian Berhalter is enjoying a strong season at Middlesbrough, while Weston McKennie returns after a brief absence due to fatigue.
Adri Mehmeti, who debuted in September, is back as well, bringing creativity to the midfield. Meanwhile, Mathis Albert also makes a return, adding his dynamic play to the squad. Gio Reyna and Malik Tillman are positioned as key playmakers, with Reyna finally establishing himself as a first-choice player in France.
Up front, Folarin Balogun is a central figure, having recently ended a four-month goal drought. He’s joined by Pulisic, who missed the last window while recovering from injury but has since regained form with AC Milan. Both players will be keen to make an impact and silence any doubts surrounding their places in the team, especially given Pulisic’s evolving relationship with Pochettino.
